The STRIDE Study   |   Strategies to Reduce Injuries and Develop Confidence in Elders

My first fall was at age 70 and then again at 71. After pulling a muscle and breaking my hip, I underwent therapy and multiple surgeries. With 2 years of hard work, I was able to walk again without pain.

Because I know how difficult recovery can be from a fall, I’m passionate about helping others prevent falls.

When I fell and broke my hip last year, I thought I would no longer be able to be independent. My doctor told me that I could get my strength and health back.

With my daughter’s help, I’ve recovered and we have both learned how to prevent falls!

Josefa, 90 & Leticia, 60

I thought falls were caused by accidents and I could do nothing to prevent them. Then, my doctor suggested that there were ways to prevent falls and maintain independence.

I value my independence more than anything. I hadn’t realized that falls were so common and could impact my independence so much.
