Site PI - Elena Volpi, MD

Dr. Volpi is a physician-investigator, the PI of the UTMB Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC) and the co-director of the UTMB Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA). She is the PI of two ongoing clinical trials of interventions to improve physical function: in healthy community-dwelling older adults, and in geriatric patients after hospitalization. She is a site PI for the UTMB site of the multi-center clinical trial ASPREE. Also, as leader of our Pepper OAIC, D. Volpi supports translational research and research training to improve independence in older adults. Specifically, in her role as co-director of the UTMB CTSA she leads efforts in institutional transformation to facilitate and enhance clinical trials at UTMB. Dr. Volpi received her MD and PhD from the University of Perugia, Italy.
